Keeping track of your mileage
During the first 50 days of your policy, we’ll look at how far you’ve driven and estimate how many miles you’re likely to drive over the full policy year.
If your predicted mileage is significantly higher than the annual mileage you selected when you bought your policy, we’ll contact you to explain your options. It’s important to act when we get in touch, as your policy may be cancelled if you don’t have enough mileage to cover your driving.
The maximum mileage allowance is 30,000 miles for the policy period. If you’re predicted to need more than this, please contact us to discuss what happens next.
How many extra miles will I need to buy?
If, within the first 50 days of your policy starting or renewing, you’re predicted to drive at least double your declared annual mileage, we’ll contact you to let you know.
To continue your policy, you’ll need to buy additional miles covering at least 50% of your predicted excess mileage.
For example:
- You selected an annual mileage allowance of 6,000 miles.
- Your driving suggests you’ll drive 12,000 miles in total (double your declared allowance).
- Your predicted excess mileage is therefore 6,000 miles.
- You’ll need to buy at least 3,000 additional miles, which is 50% of the predicted excess mileage, for your policy to continue

How to buy extra miles
You can top up your mileage through the Customer Portal:
1. Sign in using the email address and password linked to your policy.
2. Select the option to buy extra miles.
3. Choose the number of miles you need.
4. Review the cost before confirming your purchase.
Even after the first 50 days, it’s a good idea to keep an eye on your mileage. If you drive more than the annual mileage you told us you’d drive, you can keep your cover in place by buying additional miles within seven days.
