Our road safety work

Carrot’s History

After Kamran lost his 18-year-old son in a car accident in 2007, he set out to help reduce the number of accidents involving young people. In 2009, Kamran met Nick Corrie and Alan Cottrill, and together they saw how telematics could help turn that mission into action. This led to the launch of Carrot Insurance Services in 2012.

In 2021, Carrot joined the Acorn Group, a family of specialist insurance brands that shares the belief that insurance should work for everyone. Today, that same purpose remains at the heart of what we do: making roads safer and insurance fairer for every kind of driver.

Programme Zero

Programme Zero is our road-safety initiative, created to raise awareness of the risks drivers face and support our ambition of reducing road deaths to zero.

A black box isn’t simply about monitoring how you drive. It can help you recognise risky behaviours and build safer habits from the beginning. Rather than waiting until something goes wrong, we give young drivers opportunities to understand their driving, make manageable changes and improve over time.

We’re proud of the movement Programme Zero has created. The proportion of Carrot policies cancelled for speeding fell from 5.1% in April 2025 to 4.3% in April 2026. It’s a positive sign that more drivers are taking safer choices seriously – but there is still work to do.

Working together for safer roads

Our partnership with the Bobby Colleran Trust has played a key role in amplifying our message. By reaching out to local schools, we are educating our youth about road safety and the dangers of reckless driving.

When safer drivers stick together, everyone wins. It means fewer collisions, fewer lives affected and the potential for more affordable insurance. Most importantly, it gives every new driver a safer start – and helps make the road better for whoever comes next.
