Choosing car insurance can feel confusing at first, but the main difference between cover levels is what protection you receive if something happens to your own vehicle.
Here’s a simple guide to the main three levels of car insurance cover:
Third Party Only
This is the minimum level of car insurance required by law.
Third Party Only will cover a third party (the other person/people involved in an accident) in the event of a claim, but it does not cover your own vehicle if it is stolen or damaged in a fire, an accident, or by malicious intent.
(Carrot Insurance Services does not currently arrange Third Party Only cover.)
Third Party Fire & Theft
This will cover a third party in the event of a claim, and it will cover your own vehicle if it is stolen or damaged by fire. However, it will not cover your vehicle if damaged in an accident or by malicious intent.
Comprehensive:
This is the highest level of cover. Comprehensive will cover a third party in the event of a claim. It will also cover your own vehicle if it is stolen, damaged by fire, damaged in an accident or by malicious intent. Depending on the policy, windscreen damage may also be covered.
Which level is right for you?
The right cover depends on your budget, your vehicle and the level of protection you’re looking for.
While Third Party Only is the minimum legal requirement, it isn’t currently available through Carrot. However, many drivers choose Comprehensive cover for the added protection and reassurance it can provide.
